Before + After | Kitchen Countertop Reno

Get ready boys + girls, grab you dog and your coffee and find a real comfy chair, cause this is gonna be a long one. It all started one rainy July day, I had chosen the house of my dreams, negotiations had finished, and my brain was in full on idea mode. I could NOT slow down on what I could renovate and what furniture to buy, I needed to be brought back to reality on more than one occasion. Below are some images from the listing, as it looked right when I bought it (we started renovating the day after closing, so I didn’t really have a lot of before photos).

The house had this extra tall breakfast bar that I just couldn’t live with. I don’t hate all breakfast bars, but this one was taller than normal and I couldn’t find stools tall enough to fit. I’m also pretty short (5ft.) and I hated that I had no sight-lines from the kitchen. So, I made it very clear that if this was the house, that bar had.to.go. The house also had these emerald laminate countertops, no photo does justice to how green these babies were and since we were updating the bar, we needed to replace the countertops anyway. Hurricane Flo slowed our renovations, so here’s a photo of life as we knew it for for about a month. That vinyl looked lethal, shoes we’re a must.

We went all over Wilmington in search of good prices on stone and installation. In the end, we settled on some lower cost white quartz and we were able to save money cutting the bar and removing the sink and countertops ourselves. Then we got to work, you can check back on Tuesday for a closer look into how we did the countertop cut!

Getting better already! I was so lucky to have Matt to help with the heavy lifting…and the electricity…and the plumping. Ok, pretty much everything. We did a precut of the breakfast bar for the measurements, then did the final cut once the countertops were off. This island went through so many stages, But i’m so happy with how it turned out.

Final looks — We still have more to do, but the countertop renovation definitely helps us see an end in sight. This project is almost complete! Next up is choosing a backsplash, painting the island, getting our pendant lights hung, and getting some cute stools (the ones pictured are actually my dining chairs lol).sink-renovation-diy-countertops

As always, thank you for stopping by! Renovations are a little painful, but the end result is so worth it, I’d love to hear any of your experiences good or bad! And if you have a breakfast bar you’re looking to get rid of, check back Tuesday for a look into how we tackled that project!

Finding the shot on an overcast day

I live for a good sunrise or sunset. Some days you get your butt out of bed, head to the beach with gear in hand, and you get to sip your coffee in front of an unbelievable display of color. Other days, you get to the beach and realize it’s overcast or the sun seems to drift through a haze of almost no color.

On these days it becomes a different kind of shoot and you adjust. The subject in my long exposure shoots is color, so when there is no color you get to be a little more creative.  You fix your camera settings and explore different shots to get the most out of your background. The images I’m sharing today are from a sunset. It had been bright all day, but by the time I got to the beach, thunder clouds were rolling in. I tested a few different backgrounds and had some fun working with the icy blue light. You take what you can get and even on the worst day — you’re still at the beach soooo, life’s pretty damn good.

You can shop all of these as prints in my shop by following this link: https://www.chelsearominski.com/p1008632866 and I’d love to hear any experiences you’ve had with sunrise/sunset or long exposure photography!

Sometimes all you need is a well exposed shot. The long exposures didn’t allow you to see the clouds or the contrast in the ocean, so I wanted at least a few images to showcase the scene as it was. The storm clouds coming in and the rain over the ocean in the background. The entire beach was blue.

This is one of my favorties — I see it printed gigantic, at least 20×20 in a living room. For this shot I played with the white balance. Because everything was blue, it was easy to color change it all at once.

And of course — play with long exposures. I love to try different styles, some on a tripod, some hand held and exploring the different scenes that are created post processing.

It’s great when everything goes right and you get exactly the shot you planned for. But every so often, you need an unexpected day. It gets you out of your comfort zone and makes you try new things.

Fall on the Beach

FALL-BEACH-HEADER-ROMINSKI

After a few crazy months life is slowly getting back to normal. I’m ready to drift into the comforts of fall — crisp walks, comfort food, & cozy nights. We took a drive to the beach after work this week to get that creativity flowing and enjoy those relaxing views with the pup. I love fall at the beach, even though it looks the same, the feel is totally different. Things slow down, the crowds are gone, & cozy sweaters replace bikinis. It feels more like home than a destination.

I added a few prints just added to the shop! And I’m slowly, but surely working on an etsy site that’s a little more user friendly than my current online shop. I definitely did not realize how much goes into it. Anyway, hope you’re all enjoying the little things!

Summer Begins

Ahhhh — sweet, sweet summatime has begun & I love it, I live for it. It’s safe to say I’m mostly a homebody in the winter, but the sun just calls to me. There’s nothing more relaxing than a day spent outside.

My problem becomes that I’d rather spend all of my free time outside than do any more work.  I don’t know about you, but one of my biggest causes for anxiety is scheduling appointments. I put so much time into balancing work and free time, that taking care of myself and my health is something I always put on the back-burner. So, when appointments start piling up and I have to schedule them all at once, I put it off as long as possible. But, I know I’ll feel like a weight has been lifted once they’re all on the calendar & today is the day!  I’m scheduling appointments, going through my email & repeating the phrase “one day at time” over and over and over……wish me luck!

I also have some images to share from a project I did a couple weeks ago. Another sunrise shoot – it’s amazing how different the images look from day to day. This morning had no clouds, which created some really cool smooth, dreamy images. I didn’t have my new Neutral Density filter yet, so my next goal is to get up a little earlier and play with that! I’d love to hear any feedback!

All of these are available as prints on my shop ↠↠↠  and you can email me about pricing for framed images!
