DIY | Kitchen Island Accent Color

kitchen island accent color update - diy

A day late here, cause I just got back from a night in Charlotte. I’ll share some of those photos next week, but for now I wanted to share a little update on the house! After we got our countertops finished, the house was starting to feel too white and grey and I needed a little color in my life.

9540d178ca280dc97306ff2190a2c9c7I originally wanted to do a dark teal-y green like this kitchen on pinterest, but it didn’t quite fit the rest of the decor right now. Matt was not entirely on board with my dreams of green and gold accent colors, but I think the muted jade I settled on made him less worried. I ended up choosing Privilege Green – part of the HGTV Home collection at Sherwin Williams. I absolutely love it.

Painting the island was such a quick way to break up the neutrals and if we get tired of it, it’s super easy to change. See everything I used below, this whole thing took maybe 2 hours — with dry time being the biggest time delay.

All the tools:

First coat painted, then went back through with the little brush for the edges.

I love how the color turned out. I’ve been kicking it into high gear getting everything decorated and finished here, I want it done for the holidays. My parents are visiting for Thanksgiving and they get here tomorrow! This is their first time seeing the house, so I’m trying to get it as ready as possible — I guess I should go get started on cleaning everything. Have a wonderful weekend and thanksgiving week everyone!

Pinterest Roundup – Interior Decor

INSPIRATION-BOARD-ROMINSKI

The month before I closed on my home is a blur of negotiations, phone calls with insurance agencies, and a lot of Pinterest-ing. I went down the rabbit hole and started a vision board for what could be. I’ve slowly but surely started the process of moving, renovating and redecorating, which is super exciting. But, with the hurricane delaying pretty much everything, I’ve been seriously trying to keep my anxiety in check.

The dream of what could be is getting farther away as dirty concrete floors, partially ripped off countertops, and a shoe requirement becomes the new norm. Living out of two rooms with boxes stacked high from both me and my boyfriends old apartments was dreamy and exciting at first, but I’m officially ready to start unpacking and making this place a home!

Our floors are going on a month behind and the countertops, even later – BUT, we got the call this week that materials are in and we have an official start date of next Wednesday! I could not be more excited, and that “no end in sight feeling” is starting to drift back into “spend all of your money and create a Pinterest perfect home right away.”

I’m working on my patience, I promise.

Anyone else obsessed with white uppers and painted lowers?? I’m also really into this teal-y green color right now. I want it everywhere.

Pushing Past Pressure

motivational-quote-fear-rominski

“Fear is just you trying to predict the future”

Now that was a quote I needed to hear this week. I’ve been listening to podcast after podcast about small businesses, figuring out all of the little details that go into creating an Etsy site, finishing up our next catalog at work, annnnnd starting the search to buying my first home. Needless to say, my anxiety levels have been at an all time high this month.

I heard this quote and thought – hold on, that’s exactly what I’m doing. I’m drowing in the what-if’s and you know what – those rarely happen. More often than not, I find myself laughing at how worried I was about something that had a very simple solution.

So here’s to pushing past that fear and taking a chance. Because most of those what-if’s never come true and I’m strong enough to deal with the ones that do.

Ok, that was more of a life update than a photography post – so here’s a dreamy, pink sunrise shot to help calm anyone else out there who may be feelin’ the pressure right now!
